In-Demand Construction Tech Jobs

The United States construction industry was valued at $1.36 trillion at the end of 2020. It is projected that the industry value, particularly in the private construction sector, will continue to grow in 2021. Construction standards are always changing with new demands for higher efficiency, energy savings, and building innovation.

The construction industry is ideal for skilled workers who want a challenging and dynamic career with plenty of growth opportunities. From the sectors of administration, plumbing, sustainability and more, here are the top five in-demand construction technology jobs.

Project Management

Construction project management jobs offer high salaries, with median earnings of $90,000/$45hr. Job duties typically involve planning and overseeing construction projects, creating project budgets, and ensuring that workers hit their deadlines. There is a projected 11% growth for construction project management jobs in the next five years.

Glazier

            Glaziers are glass experts. These skilled tradesfolk specialize in treating, cutting, installing and removing all kinds of glass used in construction projects. Their jobs are very physically demanding as they must be able to lift heavy loads, climb ladders and often work outdoors. The median salary for a glazier technician is $39,000, though this can increase greatly with experience. It is projected there will be a need for over 2,000 more glaziers in the upcoming years.

Elevator Technicians

Elevator installers and technicians are incredibly in-demand for most construction projects. Their job duties include installing and repairing elevators and escalators. The median salary for an elevator tech is $80,000. Basic level education requirements for this career include a GED and an apprenticeship.

Plumbing

Plumbers are responsible for installing and repairing water supply lines, waste disposal systems, and appliances for residential and commercial projects. A large part of a plumber’s job includes service maintenance. Plumbing is expected to see a 16% growth rate in the next five years and comes with a median salary of $52,590.

Solar Photovoltaic Installers

            Sustainability in construction is a hot-button topic these days. It’s the goal of the industry to incorporate more sustainable practices in all sectors of the field.  One way is the inclusion of solar panels in projects. Solar panels are designed to absorb the sun’s rays and convert them to energy that can be used to power buildings, charge cars, heat offices and more. The construction industry needs skilled solar photovoltaic installers to install and manage the panels. The median salary for this career is $46,400 and there is a projected job increase of 50% in the next nine years.

The construction industry is a continually growing field that requires skilled workers from all educational levels. With the right qualifications, those looking to break into the construction technology industry won’t have an issue securing a job.
